Crimson Giant Organic Red Raspberry
2 gallon size potted plant
This is a primocane fruiting raspberry that is one of the latest to ripen of many fall red raspberries. And, Crimson Giant has been the most consistently large red raspberry I’ve seen, keeping size at very large through the majority of the harvest cycle. A firm berry that is nevertheless filled with sweetness and raspberry flavor, it is great for storing in the fridge or cooler. Selected by Cornell University in 1999, this is a fall red raspberry for the warmer growing areas of the United States (and great for high tunnel growing in USDA zones 4-5 for season extension of red raspberry for late Sept-Oct production). Crimson Giant will begin to ripen the primocane crop in the first week of September in zone 5, and continue to bear until the first hard frost (season extension cloches or mini-tunnels will extend this harvest period another 2-3 weeks). Production in warmer climates (USDA zones 6-8) will be earlier, with the main harvest being in the first 4 weeks. For the largest berries each season, Crimson Giant is best managed for production only on the primocanes (see our Plant Care page for fall red raspberry management).
