Nantahala Red Raspberry
This is a primocane fruiting raspberry that ripens very late in the season. Released by North Carolina State University in 2007, this is a primocane fruiting red raspberry for the warmer growing areas of the United States. Nantahala usually will begin ripening its crop in North Carolina (in the uplands) the first week of September, and continue to bear until the first hard frost (season extension cloches or mini-tunnels will extend this harvest period another 2-3 weeks). Production at lower elevations, coastal Carolina’s, Texas, So. California and Florida will be earlier, with the main harvest being in the first 4 weeks. Berries are very large, bright red, and have an excellent sweet flavor. Best managed for production only on the primocanes (see our Plant Care page for fall red raspberry management).
