Boysenberry Heirloom Raspberry/Blackberry
quart size pot
This interesting raspberry cross was developed in N. California years ago (by Rudolf Boysen). It is a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry, and was widely planted in the 1940’s and 50’s.
This heirloom cultivar is know for the tangy, aromatic flavor that sets it apart from many other berries. Mostly thornless, it is a sprawling cane that benefits from a trellis to keep the fruit up off the ground. It is a floricane producer, so it yields on overwintered canes. A great addition to your berry garden, for both its historic place in American fruit culture (my favorite jam growing up was boysenberry, hands down) and its preservation as an American cultivar.
