Talisman Highbush Organic Blueberry Plant
Talisman was selected by Mark Ehlenfeldt from the USDA in Chattsworth, New Jersey (he also selected Hannah’s Choice). The Fae-like name was inspired by this cultivar’s yield reliability in frosty Springs; extremely high production of medium to large-size, sky-blue berries with sweet flavor; and vigorous growth reaching 5-6’ in height on a compact, rounded shrub shape. A mature plant of Talisman will average 11-12# of fruit. Fruit ripening is very concentrated (up to 90% of berries can be harvested in one picking). Berries also maintain some firmness at full ripe, so they can be stored in the refrigerator much longer than other cultivars. Talisman is fully self-fruiting, so it does not require another cultivar present to set a full crop. Talisman has shown high resistance to mummy berry. Ripening time here is mid to late July in Brown County, Indiana. Talisman would be considered a late, midseason cultivar.
