Trentberry low chill Organic Blueberry Plant
Trentberry was selected by Glen Melcher of LA, from a seedling that arose from an unknown cross of blueberry cultivars. It is quite unique, and shows the amazing diversity that can arise when different types of blueberries are grown in the same area.
This cultivar can grow to a height of 6′ tall and 3′ wide; with an upright, multi-stemmed habit. Trentberry is very vigorous, and has been one of the fastest growing blueberries I have come across in my decades of caring for blueberries. The plants do like an acidic soil, and do very well with planting methods listed on our website.
The berries start out green, then turn a glossy bright red. As they ripen the berries become darker blue then black.
Berries are dark black when ripe, up to a half-inch in diameter, and yields on a mature plant have been measured at 10-12#. Trentberry fruit also has a slightly reddish interior flesh. Flavor of the Trentberry recalls that of the wild blueberry, excellent for fresh eating and desserts. Harvest occurs over a 4-6 week period in late summer (for our USDA zone 6 that is in late July to e. August).
