Description
Organic Blueberry Starter Collection #7: Wild Lowbush Blueberries
All plants in this collection are 1 to 1.5 years old, quart size, potted plants (not bare root) that range in height from 5″ to 12″ depending upon cultivar. USDA Zones 3b, 4, 5, 6, and 7
These cultivars WILL NOT GROW and produce in USDA zones 9-10 (we have other blueberries for those zones).
Note that these are very small plants at maturity so they are very small plants when just a year or so old (when compared to highbush blueberry the same age).
These are true, wild, lowbush (Vaccinium pensylvanicum) blueberries mostly selected by Dan Hartmann, one of the most eminent breeders and producers of blueberry plants in the United States. These cultivars originated from hand selected wild plants from populations in Michigan and Canada, and have only the wild attributes that are so enjoyed by folks fortunate enough to live near wild populations of blueberries. All plants at maturity are 12-20″ tall, very compact, and yield small, wild flavored blueberries. They ripen in the early summer.
The Collection #7 includes 4 plants, from the list below (note that there are more than 4 cultivars but you will not receive any doubles on this list):
