Blackhawk is one of the few cultivars of black raspberry that can be grown in the warmer districts of the U.S., into Texas, N. Florida, across the Gulf, and parts of S. California and the Southwest. Very resistant to foliage diseases, which is essential for the humid Southeast. Ripens after Jewel and before MacBlack, producing medium to large berries (much bigger than the wild blackcaps) on vigorous canes. Northern hardy to zone 5, so it can be grown in N. Indiana and lower Michigan
