Description
Blue Sunset Lowbush Organic Blueberry Plant
This wild, lowbush blueberry was originally collected in Baraga County, UP MI. Blue Sunset in cultivation is taller than it’s wild condition, and it reaches 8-12″ tall (almost three times its wild height of 4″ tall). Here in Indiana, we also have much more clement weather than is seen in the Yoop, and many of the wild lowbush grow taller and are more productive here because of that. Berries are bright blue and turn dark blue if allowed to fully ripen on the bush. Fall color is a mixture of fiery reds and oranges, and it holds this color a long time into the fall and early winter (as do many of the lowbush). Selected and originally propagated by Dan Hartmann.
Hardy in USDA zones 3-7
